Saint Dominic was born in Caleruega, Spain, around 1170. As a priest, he became known for his deep prayer, love of Sacred Scripture, and concern for those who had fallen into error. He recognized that authentic preaching required both holiness and sound Catholic teaching.
Moved by compassion for souls, Dominic founded the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans. His brothers were dedicated to study, preaching, and defending the Catholic faith with wisdom and charity, helping renew the Church throughout Europe.
