Who is Saint Francis of Assisi?

 Saint Francis of Assisi was born into wealth in Assisi, Italy, but gave up a life of comfort after encountering Christ in a profound way. After years of seeking worldly success, he embraced a life of poverty, prayer, and service to the poor. His conversion changed not only his life, but the life of the Church. 


 Francis founded the Franciscan Order and inspired countless men and women to follow Christ through simplicity and humility. Tradition teaches that he received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ, near the end of his life. His love for all creation reflected his deep understanding that every gift comes from God. 


 The Catholic Church honors Saint Francis as a model of joyful holiness, sacrificial love, and complete trust in Divine Providence. His witness continues to inspire believers to seek holiness through humility and charity.
